How to choose your destination Wedding Photographer

Choosing a wedding photographer for your destination wedding can be a daunting task, but it's important to find someone who can capture the memories of your special day. Here are some tips to help you choose the right photographer for your destination wedding:

  1. Do your research: Start by looking at the portfolios of different photographers who specialize in destination weddings. Look at their style, creativity, and experience to see if they align with your vision.

  2. Check references: Ask for references from previous clients and follow up with them to ask about their experience with the photographer.

  3. Consider the photographer's experience: Look for a photographer who has experience shooting weddings in the location you've chosen. They should be familiar with the lighting, weather, and other factors that could affect the photos.

  4. Set a budget: Wedding photography can be expensive, so it's important to set a budget for your photographer. Be upfront about your budget when you start looking for photographers to avoid wasting time with those that are out of your price range.

  5. Meet the photographer in person or virtually: It's important to have a good relationship with your photographer, so consider meeting them in person or virtually to get to know them better. This will help you determine if you feel comfortable working with them on your big day.

  6. Look for someone who offers packages that fit your needs: Make sure the photographer you choose offers packages that fit your needs. This may include a certain number of hours of coverage, a second shooter, digital copies of the photos, and an album. Some can even tailor a package meant just for you so that it fits your needs/vision exactly.

  7. Read the contract carefully: Make sure you read the contract carefully before signing. It should outline all the details of the services the photographer will provide, the costs involved, and any other important information.

You may have read this and might be asking yourself though, "Should I chose a photographer for my wedding that lives in the location i'm getting married or fly one in?"

There is no right or wrong answer to this question as it depends on your personal preference and the specific circumstances of your wedding.

Here are some factors to consider:

  1. Familiarity with the location: A photographer who lives in the location you're getting married may be more familiar with the area and have a better understanding of the best spots for photos. On the other hand, a photographer who is flying in may be more excited and inspired by the new location and could get photos the local photographer didn't think of because they are in a routine.

  2. Cost: If you're on a tight budget, it may be more affordable to choose a photographer who lives in the location you're getting married. This will save you the cost of airfare, accommodations, and potentially other travel expenses.

  3. Availability: If you have your heart set on a specific photographer who lives outside the location you're getting married, it may be worth it to fly them in. However, be sure to check their availability and factor in the additional costs involved.

  4. Photography Style: Some couples may have a specific style of photography that they're looking for, and may want to fly in a photographer who specializes in that style.

  5. Language barrier: If you're getting married in an area where people speak a different language than you, you may face communication challenges when trying to explain the specific photos you want. In this case, you may want to consider hiring a photographer who speaks your language fluently, or consider flying in a photographer who you feel more comfortable communicating with.

Ultimately, it's important to choose a photographer who you feel comfortable with and whose style aligns with your vision for your wedding day, regardless of whether they live in the location you're getting married or not.

By following all the tips above, you should be able to find a photographer who will capture the magic of your destination wedding in a way that you will cherish for years to come.
